What does a guy have to do to get Broadband out here?

I hope it doesn't come to this.

Seriously, this is a complex issue. While I'd like to think that mostly it should be a case of "If you'd don't like it, don't look at it." There are some cases – child porn, hate sites, criminal activity – where you just can't sit idly by.

But enough about that serious stuff. I want to whine for a bit.

I'm still waiting to hear anything from the Freshford Broadband scheme. The last update was that installations had started, but proceeding slower thatn expected. That was over a month ago, how slow can they be going?:bomb:

I've also heard that the sattelite broadband system they've installed in Tullaroan school is having problems. Not that it was ever going to be of any use to the rest of the community anyway.

I'm just so fed up with being stuck on dialup, and lately it seems like the phone line is acting up again. The connection has been dropped a few times in the past week. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

  1. i would google it. and see what's available.i understand your desperation. i am totally spoiled and can never go back to dial-up.

  2. Believe me, I've looked. The only other option would be a satellite system – which either still relys on a dialup on isdn link for the upstream – or is ridiculously expensive. ADSL is out – there's no forseeable hope that our exchange will ever be enabled. Even then the phone lines are hopelessly out of date and often shared between households which means ADSL won't work. Cable shows no signs of reaching out this far. The infrastructure just isn't in place. Broadband through the power lines looks like it's still a pipedream. In this country, if you're not in a population center you're basically SOL.

  3. Anonymous writes:Maybe not Michael.Ask uncle P about it. I believe the local dev assoc are looking at running a GBS scheme. It was mentioned at a meeting last week!!! And I reckon ur present location (I recognise the road from the snow pictures) would get service if they put a transmitter on one of the local hills.See how's that for good news at 1.20am!!! I remember looking at a PC in the house behind you and the dial-up would only give around 22k…painfull…PS You wont pick it up from Freshford…distance and line of site issue would rule you out
