I Wouldn’t Recommend It

I must go down to the sea again,
to the lonely sea and sky,

Sea Fever by John Masefield

Don't pack up the bucket and beach blanket. It's not really the weekend for it.

And while Mr. Masefield wrote a fine poem, I prefer Spike Miligan's version.

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
I left my vest and socks there, I wonder if they're dry! 😀

  1. If he did it today there would be not wondering. They'd definitely be drowned. It's been lashing down on and off all day. I do hope that no was got caught by those waves. 45 feet. :eyes:

  2. WOW what waves coming up:up: I envy you:D Have got a new salt protection shield glass for my lense on the camera…we have a storm coming up here too..maybe tomorrow…it´ll probably be at it´s higest when I´m at work 😥

  3. True hungry, but I wouldn't put it past him. Mr. Milligan could be somewhat manic, when he wasn't depressive.:star: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ :star:Hi Nic. Some surfers went out to shot scenes for a movie they're making about surfing. They were estimating the waves at 40'. If you do go out, stay back from the shoreline. I'd hate to see you washed out to sea.

  4. That is so cool. I read the poem, my sons sang the Cargoes song when they were kids – local music competition. That brings back a lot of memories. Difficult-ish music if I remember correctly.

  5. I'll never forget John Masefield's Sea Fever. I was 'sick unto death' with the flu when I had to memorize it for an exam, imprisoned in bed while my mother coached me. Each word and/or punctuation mark I missed was screamed (or at least it seemed so to me) back to me until I got it right. I don't remember how I did on the exam but must have done alright or I would have remembered it.

  6. Do they still make kids memorize poems in school? I don't think it's done these days, learning by rote has gone out of fashion. Shame, for it seems that people have good memories of poems that they learned and can still recall.

  7. We memorized a lot of great poetry too and it still comes back to me every now and again with great pleasure.

  8. yup, I agree it's a shame they don't do the memorization thing. There are lots of poems run through my mind at times and Shakespeare too and give me great pleasure – but not Sea Fever even though I love the sea and I know it is a lovely poem.
